It’s howling outside, raining too, and the sky is a murky grey. It’s been like this all day today and for the last few days, weeks, months … I’m losing count! We’re all missing the sunshine and some much-needed vitamin D. Thank goodness for the gym or I’d go stir-crazy. But today, I’m working from home and I haven’t been out! The trees in my garden have taken a battering, and I feel the same would happen to me if I ventured outside the front door! I’ve just taken a break from work and made myself some Haldi Doodh (Turmeric Milk).
Haldi Doodh is a delicious, warming, anti-inflammatory drink, just perfect for a day like today and I’m enjoying sipping mine as I write this. Here’s my recipe, which has been adapted from a few I’ve come across. This recipe makes enough for 1 small mugful:
Haldi Doodh
Ingredients
1 mug of almond milk
1/2 to 3/4 tsp of ground turmeric
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
3 cardamom seeds (crushed and husks discarded)
Honey to taste (leave out if vegan and use another natural sweetener instead, e.g. coconut sugar)
Method
Put the milk in a pan and add all the ingredients, bring to the boil and immediately turn down the heat and simmer for a few minutes to allow the spices to infuse – approximately 5 minutes. Give it a gentle whisk whilst it’s heating and infusing.
Pour through a fine sieve or muslin into your favourite, cosy mug and sweeten with a little honey to taste.
Enjoy whilst warm.
